Lynnwood, Washington is your typical bedroom community, mostly for the working high-tech professionals of Seattle. It shouldn't, however, but discounted because of its proximity to it's larger sister. The retail shops in The Alderwood Mall are the biggest employers, with 4000 – 6000 employees total at any given time. It occupies a total of 77 acres of retail space, and one of the largest malls in the Pacific Northwest. It has 200 stores, shops, restaurants and 4 department stores and a 16-screen movie theater.
After retail, the biggest industries are finance, insurance, real estate, services and education. The school district employs over 3,000 people. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder why so many moving companies in Lynnwood are so busy.
Tourism:
The Alderwood Mall is a big draw to people going to Lynnwood, but those looking for more outdoor recreation won't be disappointed either. One of the must-visits is Scriber Park, a 22-acre park filled and nature refuge. Scriber Lake in the middle of the park offers a floating dock and walking trails where one can truly feel one with nature and observe the various waterfowl, songbirds and small mammals in the area. History lovers can't miss the Lynnwood Heritage Park and see the famous Wickers Building, built in the Tudor style in 1919 and previously housed the very first general store and post office in Lynnwood.
History:
Initially, the city was called Alderwood Manor, when the developer who planned to build in the area came, the first building he constructed was named Lynnwood, after his wife, Lynn and the "wood" from the original name. Originally, the city center was going to be the intersection of State Route 524 and State Route 99. However, when I-5 was constructed, the main exit platform was constructed further east. Because of its proximity to the interstate, more buildings were added, like the Fred Meyer store and the Landmark Hotel. It was incorporated as a city on April 23, 1959.
