Located six miles east of Shoreline Washington, in the King and Snohomish Counties, Bothell, Washington is a place that you can truly call home. The city has such an amazing charm that people who choose moving to Bothell, never think of moving intrastate to any other place. Bothell has a proud heritage, excellent recreation opportunities and a highly reputable education system from kindergarten all the way to higher and professional education. The community is rich in culture and tradition. Being a relatively small city of 32,959 individuals, Bothell is a well-knit community where everyone has a place.

Economy:
Bothell has largely been a bedroom community until recently. Until the early 20th century the main economic activity was logging. Most of the residents work outside the city and only maintain residence here because of the close knit community. In the early 1990s several businesses started opening in the city and created a regional employment hub which provided more than 20,000 jobs for the area. The majority of these companies are located in Canyon Park and the North Creek business district. Biotechnology is the main industry sector with innovative companies like OncoGenex Pharmaceuticals, Alder Biopharmaceuticals and Elitech operating actively. Medical device manufacturing companies like Philips Medical Systems and Lockheed Martin Aculight also have presence in Bothell.

History:
The original inhabitants of the area were the Sammamish Indians. The Europeans arrived in the mid-1800s and forced the natives to relocate after the Puget Sound War in 1856. The population of the area grew after the arrival of Columbus S. Greenleaf and George R. Wilson in 1870. Initially the population growth was slow as only a few stores and a school opened there. The city was named after David Bothell who bought about 80 acres of land from George Brackett in 1885 and moved to the area. The first postmaster purchased land from Bothell and named the town after him. Bothell was incorporated on 14th April 1909.

Tourism:
Bothell has a lot of recreational opportunity for every age group. Bothell is also known for its rich history. The Transportation Museum has interesting displays on various types of transportation and also offers tours in the Interurban Car 55. Other attractions in the city include the Woodland Park Zoo, the Space Needle and the Washington Park Arboretum. The river trails across the Sammamish River are suitable places for walking and biking. In addition there are numerous sport activities like the Wayne Golf Course and football fields. The main shopping place is the Truly Ranch Shopping Centre which has almost everything a shopaholic could wish for. Festivals are also celebrated in the city. The Country Village Harvest Festival and the Winterfest are celebrated every year with enthusiasm.

  • From 1962 to 1970, Bothell's 112-foot Christmas tree was recognized as the largest living Christmas tree in the world.
  • In 2007, about 7,000 people gathered for a parade outside the Veterans Memorial Amphitheatre in honor Blake Lewis from Bothell who was competing in "American Idol."
