History:
Moreno Valley is a young city, having just incorporated in 1984. Originally inhabited by the Shoshone Indians, Europeans first began to arrive shortly after California was made a state in 1850. During World War I, the government constructed March Field there, in order to train fighter pilots. It was used for the same purpose during World War II. It eventually closed down, and now is used as a baseball facility and is home to a semi-pro league. Moreno Valley has been experiencing a real boom since 2000, with both industry and housing development making it a popular place to move to.

Tourism:
Besides the semi-pro baseball, Moreno Valley is home to the March Field Air Museum and a flourishing community theatre. There are several outstanding mountain resorts nestled in the surrounding mountains. Lake Perris, formed by the Perris Dam, offers a large variety of water activities, including fishing and a special area for scuba diving. There is a rock climbing area nearby. There are many beautiful golf courses in Moreno Valley.

Economy:
While the city has seen both ups and downs in its economy, currently it is experiencing an expansion of local business and industry. The city is planning on more than 24 million square feet of new development and the creation of more than 20,000 jobs in the near future. They are also building several medical office projects and a Wal-Mart distribution center.
