History:
In the year 1827, Westland, along with other areas, were included in the Bucklin Township. In 1829, the Bucklin Township was split into Pekin and Lima Townships and Westland became a part of the latter. Later, the Lima Township had to be transformed into Nankin Township as initial postal rules did not allow two townships /counties to have same names.
However, in 1835, the modern day Westland area separated from the Nankin Township. In the 20th century, there were clashes between the separated areas and certain attempts of annexations were made. To prevent this, people of the township created the city of Westland on 11th May,1966.
