Union City, New Jersey is located only three miles from New York City. The close proximity to New York has made Union City one of the most densely populated cities in the United States. History:
Originally this area was inhabited by the Lenape. It was then occupied and settled by the Germans in 1851. The Germans were originally in New York, but the need for affordable land and open space made them move across the Hudson River. The area was also home to Camp Yates, a Civil War Installation. The first trolleys started operating in the area of West Hoboken and Union Hill in 1890. The Roosevelt stadium area used to be a farm, called the Kerrigan Farm. From the 1850s to the early 1900s, the main communities in the region were German Americans and the Dutch. These people started the European-style lace making industries along with the Swiss and Austrian immigrants. The industries were very successful in their day and Union City and the Western part of New York became known as the ‘Embroidery Capitol of the United States.' Union City was incorporated in 1925 by merging the two towns of West Hoboken and Union Hill.

Union City is known as a more peaceful New York. The main interesting places to visit here are the Saint Michael's Monastery Church, the Celia Cruz Park, the Park Performing Arts Centre and the Old City Hall. The city also has celebrations and festivals. These include the Cuban Day Parade and the Union City's Multi-Arts Festival.
