Portland, Oregon, the county seat of Multnomah County, is the largest city in the state. It is in the northwest part of Oregon. It has grown from an industrial trading port into a modern and diverse city, which keeps people flocking here, and local Portland movers busy.

History:
William Overton and Amos Lovejoy first claimed the Portland area in 1843 as they saw great promise in the location. Portland was the farthest point inland on the Willamette River, which gave the city an advantage over neighboring towns. Portland was the major port in the northwest until railroad access allowed easier transportation between certain cities. The city was officially incorporated until 1851. Later events in the area included the Alaska Gold Rush and the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, both of which occurred around the turn of the century. The city has a population of about 530,000.

Portland International Airport is just six miles from the city. Portland has many museums displaying art, science, industry, and advertising. Additional attractions include a symphony orchestra, a ballet company, a zoo, and a planetarium. The Portland rose festival is a popular annual event. The Portland Trailblazers of the NBA are the city's only major sports team. Also, the state historical society of Oregon can be found in Portland.
