History:
Fresno was first settled in 1872 to be a station on the Central Pacific Railroad. Early on in its history, the city utilized irrigation for farming to help increase the productivity of the land. The city was incorporated in 1885. The first modern landfill was introduced to Fresno in 1937. The agriculture of the area continued to expand as the years went on and today Fresno County is the top agricultural county in the country.
