Located only 45 miles south of Los Angeles in Riverside County, and characterized by warm summers and cool winters, Corona, California is the premiere spot to experience the beauty that is Southern California. A city with heritage spanning over a century, Corona has developed as an ethnically diverse community, with a considerable percentage of the population made up of young, well-educated families. Those moving to Corona will discover a city with more than 394 acres of parks, sports fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds and a skate park.

History:
Founded during the Southern California citrus boom in 1886, Corona once claimed the title "lemon capital of the world." A museum in town highlights the lemon's former role in the local economy. The city got its name from the curious layout of the city's streets, with a standard grid enclosed by the mile round Grand Boulevard. Recently, Corona has come to be known as the Gateway to the Inland Empire. Citrus orchards and dairy farms dominated a largely agricultural community prior to the 1980s. Due to high real estate prices in Los Angeles and Orange County, the city of Corona has become land desirable to developers and industrialists. By the late 1990s, Corona had become a major suburb of Los Angeles.

Economy:
Corona's industrial base played an important function in the city's growth. More than 82,000 people are employed in Corona. And the retail and commercial areas are expanding. In addition, the development of commerce and industry in the city has seen recent acceleration with the added access to the Riverside Freeway. Many firms are leaving northern Orange County to be closer to their homes in Corona. The recent construction of the Chino Valley Freeway has helped link Corona to the Pomona and San Gabriel valleys.

Demographics:
Like many Southern California communities, Corona is comprised of a diverse culture and a youthful populace. The racial makeup of the city is 62 percent White, 23 percent Hispanic, 6 percent African American and 7 percent Asian. The median household income is estimated at $99,000, and the median income for a family at $83,500. Males in Corona have a median income of $45,000 versus $32,000 for females.
