History:
Today, Spartanburg is a bustling and progressive city. Established as a courthouse village in the 1780s, Spartanburg (the name might have come from the Spartan Regiment of the South Carolina militia) was incorporated in 1831. A statue of General Daniel Morgan stands proudly in the City center and commemorates his victory at the Battle of Cowpens, whre he inspired the American Revolutionary Forces to re-gain South Carolina from the British on January 17, 1781.
