History:
Sumter started as a town that was famous for its plantation settlement. This part of the nation was initially inhabited in the 1740s, by the European settlers. In the year 1845, it was established as Sumterville. However, in 1855, its name was abridged to Sumter. Sumter, South Carolina was named after a Revolutionary War hero General, Thomas Sumter. Thomas became renowned as the Fighting Gamecock. Sumter implemented a manager or council kind of government in the year 1912.
