Economy:
Cleveland is the fifth largest industrial city in Tennessee with 12 Fortune 500 companies having large scale operations in its metropolitan area. The city is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in Tennessee and in the nation. The list of companies includes Coca Cola, M&Ms, Dasani Water, Coppertone, Dr Scholl, Duracell, Kenmore and Whirlpool. Two German companies are also investing a billion dollars each in establishing a new manufacturing plant. The median household income in 2009 was $35,071. The active operations of some of the largest companies and investments by others have resulted in a huge increase in the number of people moving to the region. As a result, housing prices have increased sharply after 2009. But when you see the amount that Cleveland has to offer, every dollar is worth it.

History:
The area was inhabited by the Paleo Indians thousands of years ago. Recent historic records indicate that the Cherokee tribes lived here in the 18th and 19th century. The first permanent white settlement began to form in the area in 1834. Among the first settlers was Andrew Taylor who had married an Indian woman and was allowed a reservation in the Indian area. Taylor had a log house at the site of the current post office. The removal treaty with the Indians was made in 1835. Soon afterwards, the then known "Taylor's Place" became popular among travellers as a stopping place because of a number of natural springs in its vicinity. In 1836, the Court of Bradley County called a meeting to decide the county seat. "Taylor's Place" was voted by the majority. The Court named the place Cleveland, in honour of the Revolutionary War hero, Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, and made it the county seat on 20th January, 1838.

Tourism:
Cleveland is known for its scenic beauty and parks. There is the Cherokee National Forest and the Hiwassee River State Park. The Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park is also a famous recreation spot. Shopping facilities include the Village Mall Shopping Centre and the Cleveland Mall. Local festivals in Cleveland include the Apple festival, held every October and the colorful Foothills County Fair which is held in May every year. Another interesting event is the Cherokee Days of Recognition. This event is held every August and is a reflection of the history of native tribes that originally lived in the area.
