A city celebrated for its superb architecture and quaint cobbled streets, York, Pennsylvania is fast developing as a flourishing, forward-thinking scene. A city of contrasts and exciting discoveries, the city is a place where the old encompasses the new and the ordinary meets the unpredicted. Those moving to York will discover excellent museums and a variety of festivals held throughout the year, the city of York is home to all the amenities you would expect from the perfect hometown.

History:
The city was incorporated as a borough in 1787 and as a city in 1887. During the American Revolutionary War, York served as the temporary capital of the Continental Congress. The Articles of Confederation were drafted and adopted in York, though they would not be ratified 1781. According to U.S. census reports from 1800 through 1840, York ranked within the country's top 100 most populous urban areas. During the American Civil War, York became the largest Northern town to be occupied by the Confederate army. The City of York experienced several remarkable achievements and embarrassments to begin the 21st century. In 2002, the city faced a budget shortfall and Mayor John Brenner's plan to raise the money by asking York County's adult residents to donate $3.32 to the city received national attention. The plan, referred to by some as the "Big Mac" Plan, did not raise all the money needed. Still, after many years of attempting to secure funding for a stadium and a baseball team to play in it, the first decade of the century saw York realize both goals. In 2007, Sovereign Bank Stadium, home of the York Revolution, was opened. The stadium, along with other large projects such as the York County Judicial Center and 241 luxury apartment lofts, symbolized the city's far-reaching redevelopment efforts.

Economy:
York County's economy offers a diverse mix of industrial, retail, service, agricultural and is the third largest manufacturing county in Pennsylvania. Whether you are looking for a job in manufacturing, services or technology, York will almost certainly have something for you. A number of job search services are available to assist new residence, and there are opportunities to learn new skills to help further individual career goals. York County has over 7,900 businesses, of these, there are over 1,000 manufacturing companies. Companies that have located facilities in York include Harley-Davidson, York International, Starbucks Coffee Company, York Barbell, Datum Filing Systems, Inc., Frito-Lay and Goodyear Tire Company. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder why so many York movers are so busy.

Tourism:
Famous for its wealth of attractions like and the iconic York Minster and JORVIK, York is fast developing a thriving and innovative scene. Broaden your mind with a visit to the National Railway Museum, or take an entertaining guided walks and boat trips on the River Ouse. Head over to the Antique automobile club of America where you will find The AACA Museum. This museum is dedicated to the celebration, preservation and education of the American Motor Vehicle history. Next, DreamWrights Youth and Family Theater has grown vastly through the years in its size and scope, making it one of the most popular places in York for people of all ages to come together and grow in a positive environment. Finally, sample authentic Bavarian style brews at one of the city's distilleries, or head out on one of the city's many wine tours. From stunning views of the Susquehanna River, to the beautiful backdrop of rolling hills, you will soon discover what makes the 14 family-owned wineries along the UnCork York Wine Trail extraordinary.
