If you are big on shopping you'll love moving to Elizabeth, New Jersey. There you will find an offer nobody can refuse because Elizabeth is classified New Jersey's largest Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), and participating stores are empowered to charge a sales tax rate that is half the normal rate applying elsewhere throughout the State. Add to this the other startling "freebie," which is that in New Jersey sales tax does not apply on clothing purchases, and you could be up for an entire new closet. Perhaps you are thinking of moving to Elizabeth in which case you really should be in contact with our team of professional moving companies in New Jersey. If Union County is not your choice we also cater for the other 20 counties and many cities in New Jersey.

History:
English settlers were first to establish themselves in what they named "Elizabethtown" in 1665. The "Elizabeth" who gave her first name to the town was not Elizabeth l, Queen of England but rather Elizabeth, Wife of Sir George Carteret, 1st Baronet and one of the first Proprietors of the Colony of New Jersey. In March 1855, the city of Elizabeth was created by Act of Legislature. Industry arrived in Elizabeth in the form of the Singer Sewing Machine Company and by 1895 the first car, or rather wagon producer followed with the arrival of the Electric Carriage and Wagon Company. The Electric Boat Company soon followed suit building submarines for the U.S. Navy from 1906. In 1920 the Durant Corporation rolled out the first assembly line for automobile production in the State. By 1928 the landmark Goethals Bridge had opened together with Outerbridge Crossing Bridge and this put Elizabeth on a much better and faster transport network with surrounding areas. Further industrialization remained the general trend between the 1930s and 1950s and the City has prospered well from public / private investment partnerships right up to the present.

Economy:
It is for good reasons that the city of Elizabeth is regarded as the economic powerhouse of the state of New Jersey. It is a busy hub for shipping, transportation, industrial output, and very impressive retail sector. There is a solid network of public and private partnerships in place to capitalize on maintaining existing output and attracting new investment to the area. The spin off has been impressive as over $1 billion has been privately invested in revitalizing neighborhoods, and maintaining busy business districts. The outlook indeed looks very prosperous for the fine city of Elizabeth in New Jersey.

Tourism:
If shopping is your scene then Elizabeth is the right place for you to be. There is even an exit ramp off the New Jersey Turnpike devoted to mega shopping centers like Ikea and Jersey Gardens - the State's largest retail outlet mall. Once you have exhausted yourself, and your credit card too head for Morris Avenue, often dubbed "Little Columbia" where Latin flavors dominate the menus. Oh, and a visit to the Ritz Theater is a must – it has been the home of live entertainment since 1926. Armed with the knowledge that Popular Science magazine named Elizabeth one of America's Greenest Cities back in 2008, and you can but enjoy your visit to this modern city.
