storage facilities and moving companies help make the transition easy on movers.
Storage companies in Maine are plentiful, as are self-storage units and many other relocation services. Being new to town does not have to slow you down. Discover quaint shops in some of the town's snow-covered villages, or take a rode trip and experience all that Maine has to offer. Whatever you, you are sure to fall in love with the friendly people and peaceful towns of Maine.
Origin of State's Name: Reference to the area as "Maine" in writing first appeared in 1622, and is probably a practical nautical term that refers to the region being a mainland (separate from the many surrounding islands).
Capital City: Augusta is a city of nearly 200,000 residents, and a popular destination for people relocating to Maine. Because of this, storage units and storage companies can be found throughout the city. Need to
rent a truck? You can do that here, too. With a new state of the art high school, an excellent cancer care center and the stirring redevelopment of the riverfront area, Augusta has become an incredible city in which to live and thrive.
Population: There are currently 1.3 million people that reside in the state of Maine.
Driving: Storage facilities in Virginia are not hard to find. Amazingly enough, either are moving companies, apartment locators, shipping companies, or the state's DMV offices. Driver's license information, applications, testing requirements, driver's manuals and much more can be found on the
Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles website.
Agriculture and Industry: Seafood, poultry and eggs, potatoes, dairy products, cattle, blueberries and apples are the state's leading areas of agriculture. Paper, lumber and wood products, electric equipment, food processing, leather products, textiles and tourism are the Maine's largest industries.
State Bird: The Maine state bird is the black-capped chickadee and was adopted by the state legislature in 1927.
State Tree: The eastern white pine is the state tree and can grow from 75 to 150-feet in height. The eastern white pine made Maine one of the lumbering centers of the nation in the middle of the 19th century.
State Flower: The state flower is the white pinecone and tassel and in fact is not at all a flower. It was approved by the state legislature in 1895. The cones are slender and curved and 4-8 inches in length. Into their second year, the cone opens, becoming more curved before eventually falling off.
State Song: "State of Maine Song" by Roger Vinton Snow is Maine's official state song.
