"The state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation". The state is also known as the "Ocean State" which was a name adapted primarily to promote tourism.
Origin of states name: The origin of the states name is unknown although some believe it was named after the Greek Island of Rhodes.
Population: The population of Rhode Island is in excess of 1 million people based on the last census in 2000.

Capital: The capital of Rhode Island is providence and the stat is surrounded by other states including Connecticut, Massachusetts, water border with New York and of course the Atlantic Ocean.
