In Chandler, Arizona golf is clearly the official past time as evidenced by the gorgeously designed golf courses that fill the city. There is also an abundance of fabulous shopping in many different spots around the city. Chandler is located close to the spring training facilities for the Anaheim Angels, the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants. Phoenix is just a short drive from Chandler where sports fans can cheer on the Arizona Diamondbacks Major League Baseball team, watch the Phoenix Suns dribble up and down the basketball court or see the Arizona Cardinals score a touchdown. Those moving to Chandler will quickly discover an area with a warm, sunny and an inviting climate (almost all year round), with an average temperature of 85 degrees.

Economy:
The main industries that thrive in Chandler are technology and retail. Intel one of the largest companies in the areas with a lot of influence on the city. They have four locations in Chandler. Other prominent companies include AmeriCredit, Charles Schwab and Wells Fargo. Like many cities, Chandler has suffered some setbacks during the recession, but in 2009 and 2010 five new hotels opened and many office buildings that have stood empty are starting to fill up. Also, construction projects that were at a standstill are starting to see action again. As things are looking up, it's no wonder Chandler moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
Each March, Chandler residents delight in the one-of-a-kind Ostrich Festival. This three-day event showcases a variety of musical talents on multiple stages, as well as dancing and theatrics. There are carnival-style rides featuring fun for the whole family. There is also an area just for kids -- complete with pony rides, a petting zoo, games and inflatable play structures to jump on. You will also be able to find all kinds of foods such as ostrich burgers. The highlight of the event is the actual ostrich races. This is a site to see with these huge birds running up to 45 miles per hour with jockeys riding on their backs.

History:
In 1891, Dr. Alexander John Chandler first arrived in the area. He was a veterinarian from Canada who came and established what became known as Chandler Ranch. The history books state that the town of Chandler's official founding date was May 17, 1912. Dr. Chandler saw the potential in this new found land and he began attracting potential buyers to purchases pieces of Chandler for themselves. He was instrumental in the original plans and layout of the town. Dr. Chandler also came up with the idea for Arizona's first resort, the San Marcos Hotel. This luxury hot spot attracted movie stars, politicians and socialites who wanted to escape the cold of winter. The city and resort sustained their opulence even during the Depression era. The San Marco Hotel is still a popular destination.

  • The San Marcos golf course in Chandler was the first course in Arizona to have real grass fairways.
  • People who came to Chandler and were interested in buying land were given free ice cream cones by Dr. Chandler.
  • Chandler has won the "Playful City USA" award three times for showing that recreation is an important part of the city with its many parks, playgrounds and swimming pools.
