History:
Fayetteville came into being once two settlements alongside the Cape Fear River converged in 1783. After the American Revolutionary War, during which time Fayetteville became a political and cultural hub, the city became gathering members for the 1787 Constitutional Convention. Many decisions were made in this politically charged city including the not passing the nomination of Fayetteville as the capital of North Carolina, the charter of the University of North Carolina, relinquishing the western part of the state to Tennessee, and ratification of the U.S. Constitution. In the 1860s, General William Tecumseh Sherman spent two days in Fayetteville with his 60,000 troops. These are only a few strides made here that has affected the nation for the better.
