History:
When district attorney Elias Glenn settled near Baltimore in 1812, he called his place "Glennsburne." Through the years and generations that followed, the name changed several times until 1930 when the final decision was Glen Burnie. Glenn's grandson, William Wilkins Glenn added the Curtis Creek Mining, Furnace and Manufacturing Company to the property, a successful endeavor that flourished for many years. The town expanded because of this successful company, especially in terms of the several thousand acres of land that accumulated as a result. In 1887, a railroad known as the Annapolis Short Line began in Glen Burnie offering both passenger and freight services. The services stopped in the mid 1900s and later the route became a paved linear park between Annapolis and Baltimore. This trail stops at several locations, including Glen Burnie and the popular Marley Station Mall.
