August 13, 2012 - When relocating, it's important to purchase all the essentials for transporting fragile items appropriately. While
moving services will use every precaution to keep items safe, those moving can purchase special supplies from moving companies for optimal protection.
Some basics to buy include bubble wrap, tape and large sturdy
moving boxes. While using second-hand boxes can be cost-effective, if they fall apart the cost to repair or replace fragile items may be more than new moving boxes would have been. Those moving should be sure to tape all the flaps closed on boxes.
Layering bubble wrap in the bottom of the box provides additional cushion to individually wrapped items. While many people use newspaper for dishware, the ink can smear easily, so opt for a plain paper when packing and fill empty space with more paper or styrofoam pieces to keep items from moving around and breaking.
When packing mirrors, be sure to buy specially shaped
moving boxes, and apply tape to the glass to keep it from shattering if it does break. Pieces like this should be kept separate from other moving boxes and items left out.
