July 6, 2012 - While
long-distance movers can make transporting items much more efficient than most people can do themselves, there are some things that people should keep with them at all times and not load onto moving vans.
Personal items and toiletries should be kept close during a move, since they may be needed before the trucks arrive. Basic personal items and toilet paper can prevent an emergency shopping trip while there is unpacking to complete. People should also keep any medications out of the moving trucks.
If
movers are delayed slightly, it is important to have a few extra changes of clothes around, since other items will not be available.
People should also hold onto anything of great importance that they may need, such as passports, financial or medical records or credit cards.
It's also important to have things that a household will need to complete the unpacking process. This can include anything from some non-perishable snacks and garbage bags to scissors, which will help to cut through any tape on the moving boxes. These sometimes-overlooked items can help the moving process immensely.
