September 12, 2012 - News sites are buzzing that the childhood home of famed boxer Muhammad Ali has been sold.
The Associated Press say a fan and investor won't likely be
moving boxes into the home despite having paid $70,000. The home was originally assessed at $23,260 according to public records, while the previous owner, Steve Stephenson, was only asking $50,000.
The house, located in Louisville, Kentucky, has previously been deemed a historical landmark by the state and remains a popular symbol in the local community. Ali continues to be one of the most recognizable people in the world, and not only for being a three-time world heavyweight boxing champion. In 2005, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work and dedication to humanitarian causes.
According to the news source, Ali and his wife have purchased homes throughout the country including their main residence in Arizona and other homes in Louisville, Phoenix and one in Berrien Springs, Michigan. However, he frequently revisits his childhood home and the town he grew up in.
One Louisville real estate agent notes that the buyer, Jared Weiss, has plans to restore the house to its conditions from when the World's Greatest lived there.
