November 30, 2010 - A new report shows that those packing their
moving boxes can find sharply discounted homes on today's housing market.
Analyzing home sales data on mortgages acquired by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the Federal Housing Finance Agency reported that national home prices dropped 1.6 percent during this year's third quarter compared to the previous quarter. Prices were also down on a year-over-year basis, falling 3.2 percent, and 0.7 percent from August to September said the report.
The results could also mean that many homebuyers living in New England may want to consider hiring a
long distance moving company and finding a home near the Rocky Mountains. The report showed that prices for homes in New England rose 0.9 percent in the latest quarter, while prices in the Mountain region - comprising Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico - dropped 4 percent.
The Atlanta metropolitan area also led the country in price drops, with year-over-year values declining 10.1 percent.
Low prices in that market have provided significant discounts for those hiring
moving companies and heading to Atlanta. The latest report from the National Association of Realtors showed that the city's median home price in October was just $109,900.
