Hawaii became the 50^th state on August 21st 1959. The state is affectionately known as the Aloha state. Hawaii is really a series of 8 islands which are named Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and the Big Island of Hawaii.

The word Hawaii probably comes from the native word for homeland which is "Owhyhee".

The population of Hawaii is in excess of 1.2 million people base on the last census in 2000.

State Song: The state song is "Hawaii's Own" that sings the praises on this great state.

State Bird: The state bird is the Hawaiian Goose or Nene.

State Flower: The state flower is the "Hibiscus brackenridgei" or "Pua Aloha" as it is commonly known which has a beautiful bright lustrous yellow flower with a stunning red center.
