Hawaii became the 50th state on August 21st 1959. The state is affectionately known as the Aloha state. Hawaii is really a series of 8 islands which are named Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and the Big Island of Hawaii.

The word Hawaii probably comes from the native word for homeland which is "Owhyhee".

The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu and is well known for its beautiful beaches and breathtaking scenery.

Economy: The economy of Hawaii is driven by tourism as well as harvesting coffee, fruits and nuts (especially macadamia) as well as sugarcane and nursery stock especially orchids. The main industries are food processing with some electronics companies also providing employment.
