Connecticut is commonly known as the Constitution state due to questionable historic data that gives credit to the Planters of Connecticut for writing the first constitution, the Fundamental Orders of 1639/39. Population: The state has a population in excess of 3.4 million based on the last census in 2000.

  • Doctor Samuel Higley of Simsbury started the first copper coinage in America in 1737.
  • The first lollipop-making machine opened for business in New Haven in 1908. The Lollipop is name dafter a well known race horse of that time.
