Population: The state has a population in excess of 3.4 million based on the last census in 2000.

  • Doctor Samuel Higley of Simsbury started the first copper coinage in America in 1737.
  • The first lollipop-making machine opened for business in New Haven in 1908. The Lollipop is name dafter a well known race horse of that time.

  • Connecticut is home to the first color television (1948). 
  • Wallingford has earned a worldwide reputation for the production of silverware.
