Connecticut is commonly known as the Constitution state due to questionable historic data that gives credit to the Planters of Connecticut for writing the first constitution, the Fundamental Orders of 1639/39. The state is also known as the Nutmeg state. Connecticut became the 5^th state in Jan 9th 1788.

Origin of state's name: The name Connecticut owes its origins to the Indian word for a "place beside a lone river".

• The first lollipop-making machine opened for business in New Haven in 1908. The Lollipop is name dafter a well known race horse of that time.
