Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Economy:
Located in Allen County, Lima, Ohio is a prominent regional centre for healthcare facilities including many reputable medical centers. Oil was discovered here and the oilfields at Lima were the largest in the U.S. for about a decade. The oil industry brought in a lot of money for the city. A number of theatres and performance stages were opened and large sums of money were spent on developing other recreation facilities for residents. Lima was also home to a number of industrial companies including the Lima Locomotive Works Inc. which was a significant player in the economic growth of the city. These companies formed what is known as the Rust Belt. Many businesses began moving to Lima to benefit from the industrial environment.

History:
The region used to be inhabited by the Shawnee Indians. During the 19th century the Europeans started inhabiting the area. There was enormous economic growth in the nearby city of Findlay. Stimulated by that, a Lima businessman, Benjamin C. Faurot, began a project of drilling for natural gas at his paper mill in 1885. The drilling led to the discovery of Oil instead of gas. Despite hitting a jackpot, the businessman could not make proper profits, but the discovery encouraged a lot of other investors and set off the Lima Oil industry by bringing John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil to the city. Lima was also home to one of the most active Ku Klux Klan groups after World War I.

Tourism:
Lima has a number of good hotels and Inns. The Wingate By Wyndham is a nice place to stay. Then there is Holiday Inn, Econo Lodge, Travel Lodge and the Lima Knights Inn. Lima is also famous for its Benjamin Faurot’s Opera House which was opened in 1882. The structure of the building influenced has influenced a number of Theatre buildings in New York, where the people were impressed by its design. Lima is a particularly interesting place for people interested in America’s economic and industrial history. The city has the scars of the collapse of a number of blue-collar industries that had operated from here. A large number of places in Lima are included in the National Register for Historic places. The Union Block is one such famous structure, and then there is the Griffith Brese Farm followed by the Lima Memorial Hall. Lima is also host to the Allen County fair, which attracts large crowds every year.

Interesting Facts:

  • Lima was considered to be among the top five Soviet targets during the Cold War. The residents didn’t even practice to ‘dive and duck’ because the chances of survival were none anyway.
  • The residents claim to be the only Ohio County to go for Republican Barry Goldwater during the 1964 presidential election.
