The "Boynton" part of the Boynton Beach came from the military in the form of one Civil War Major named Nathan S. Boynton. He was so captivated by the year-round sunshine, pristine beaches and natural beauty of the area that he built the Boynton Beach Hotel originally for use as a summer residence for his family back in the late 19th century. Since then the area has become increasingly popular for obvious reasons and the cty of Boynton Beach is now a sought after destination for both tourist and would be residents. Those moving to Boyton Beach will instantly discover a beautiful and exciting city.

History:
After the building of the Boynton Beach Hotel, the arrival of the railroad brought new opportunities for development and expansion in the area that was to become Boynton Beach City. Early settlers were quick to realize that the fertile soil was ideal for growing fruit and vegetables and so demand quickly developed for fresh produce from across the country. The place now known as Boynton Beach, Florida was originally incorporated as the Town of Boynton in 1920 to distinguish it from a community with the current name. For some unknown reason the original Boynton Beach changed its name to Ocean Ridge and Town of Boynton became Boynton Beach in 1941. With that behind it Boynton Beach assumed an assured future with tourism leading the way towards development and wealth.

Economy:
With tourism the strong driver of the economy, Boynton Beach relies substantially on this sector for job creation and economic wealth. The population sits around the 70,000 mark, an increase of 14.2 percent since the year 2000. Compared to the U.S. National average, cost of living in Boynton Beach is 15.4 percent lower than the mean. The median cost of a home in Boynton Beach is just under the $100,000 level with a steadily improving recorded home appreciation rate.

Tourism:

  • Florida's Gold Coast surely is one of the finest of its kind anywhere on the planet. Boynton Beach is situated north of Delray Beach and south of Palm Beach making it one of the most appealing stretches of shoreline and water.

    • Boynton Beach Club was a movie filmed mainly on location in Boynton Beach and is based on the director's mother's experiences in the city.
    • PGA professional golfer George Burns hails from Boynton Beach.
    • Historical tornado activity in the Boynton Beach area is slightly below the Florida average but eight percent greater than the U.S. average.
