Missouri became the 24th state on August 10th 1821. Missouri is commonly known as the "Show Me State" which really talks to the use of common sense. It is believed a congressman from Missouri once proclaimed "I'm from Missouri and you've got to show me".

Origin of state's name: The word Missouri come from and old Indian word for "little town of the little canoes"

State Capital: The state capital is Jefferson City which was named after US President Jefferson. The state is surrounded by eight other states including Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Kentucky.

State Bird: The state bird is the Bluebird or Sialia WilsonII. The bluebird has a beautiful singing voice and can be found throughout the country although it prefers the warmer climate more to the south.
