Columbus is the state capital of Ohio and is located in the central part of the state. Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities of its size, keeping local Columbus movers busy.

History

Columbus was selected as state capital of Ohio in 1812.  The further growth of the city in the coming years was due to the addition of various forms of transportation.  In 1831, a canal connected the city to the Ohio and Erie Canal.  Two years later the National Road reached the city and in 1850 railroads connected to Columbus.  During the Civil War, a major military base was built in the city.  The Ohio Statehouse was completed in 1861 after 22 years of construction and numerous different architects used.     

 

 Tourism

Columbus consists of numerous historical landmarks and cultural attractions.  Government buildings to visit include the state office building and capital, as well as the state library.  Cultural destinations include the Center of Science and Industry, the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, the American Rose Society, and the centers for the archeological and historical societies of Ohio.  Older places to visit include Fort Hayes, which was built during the Civil War, Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery, and several state reservoirs and parks. 

 

The only major professional sports team is the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL, although several other professional and collegiate teams play in the city.  Port Columbus International Airport is eight miles from the city.
