Mesa, Arizona, of Maricopa County, is in the south central part of the state and is Arizona's third largest city. As the largest suburban city in the U.S., local Mesa movers can sometimes travel long distances for an in-city or intrastate move.

Economy:
Mesa is a rapidly growing city with an economy focused on manufacturing, agriculture and tourism. Electronics, metals, aeronautics, machinery, and processed food are manufactured in the city.

Tourism:
Mesa is serviced by Williams Gateway Airport, which is located 11 miles from the city. There are minor league and collegiate sports teams in the area, as well as major league teams during spring training. Museums of the city include the Arizona Museum of Youth, the Commemorative Air Force Museum, and the Mesa Historical Society and Museum. Additional attractions of Mesa are the Hohokam Stadium, the Mesa Amphitheatre, and the city library.

History:
Native American tribes, such as the Hohokam and Pima, first inhabited the Mesa area. Mexico and Spain both had control of the area before the Mexican American War, when the United States took control. Mormons made a settlement in the region in 1878 and the city of Mesa was officially incorporated in 1930. Military establishments, including Falcon Field Airport and Williams Air Force Base, were built at the beginning of World War II to train additional troops. After the war, many troops stayed in Mesa which resulted in a large population boom. The city has continued to prosper in the second half of the 20th century and is today one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

  • Mesa is the largest suburban city in the United States
  • Many major league teams choose Mesa as their spring training home because of the favorable year long climate.
  • Mesa's population is growing at such a fast rate that it has doubled in size since 1980.
  • As Mormons first settled into the area, there is still a substantial Mormon population in the city. In fact, over one-fourth of the city is Mormon.
