Cleveland, Ohio was not the most ideal place for settlement, but when the Erie Canal came through, so did the people. Soon railroads connected to the area and the city grew.
The Greater Cleveland area includes several cities, with the primary ones being Lorain, Elyria, and of course Cleveland. Clevelanders refer to their city as the Cleve, the Land, and the Rock-and-Roll capital of the world.
The slogan, "Cleveland Rocks!" comes from a rock song made popular in recent years by The Drew Carey Show, which featured it as the theme song.
